Troubled Californian timber company Pacific Lumber has put 60,000 acres of land up for sale.

The company, which has been struggling to pay interest on debt, said it was selling ranchland or timberland with Douglas fir, not its prized redwood groves.

Pacific has not been able to cut enough timber to be profitable and has battled with environmentalists and regulators over its harvesting of redwood forests.

The company has the world’s largest privately-owned groves of ancient redwoods.
