Sarawak’s chief minister believes the state’s timber output could double by 2020 with help from new plantation policies.

The minister said one million hectares of plantation forest will be harvested by 2020, which could boost timber production to 25 million m3.

Timber volumes are expected to be about 12 million m3 in 2005, worth an estimated M$700m.

Quick-growing species are being chosen for plantations.
