Taylor Woodrow has opted to use the heat-treated European softwood after being told of its environmental benefits by engineered timber firm Palgrave Brown and its EcoHomes Assessment Support Service, English Partnerships specified that the 800-home development should be environmentally-friendly and sensitive to the exisiting surroundings around Park Prewett, leading Palgrave to recommend that Platowood be used instead of more traditional materials such as western red cedar due to its cost, durability and aesthetic benefits.

“We don’t just think about chain of custody, we also consider the environmental impact of materials, which in fact carries more weight under EcoHomes than responsible sourcing,” said Palgrave key account manage Andy Warren.

“Platowood scores on all fronts with a higher rating for environmental impact, FSC chain of custody to prove responsible sourcing and substantial cost benefits.”

As well as recommending the timber for the main construction phase, Palgrave Brown are to supply floors, roofs and doors for the homes.
