German sawmiller Pollmeier Mazziveholz GmbH has launched an international Beech Design Award with a top prize of €2,500.

Pollmeier, which manufactures and exports beech, started the competition to illustrate the uses and design options for the species.

The contest, which runs until October 30, is open to anybody who designs or makes products using beech, such as woodworkers, architects and furniture manufacturers.

Projects are awarded points via voting on Pollmeier’s website, with visitors able to award between one and five points.

An awards ceremony will take place in November.
