Mass production of timber house components is helping grow the use of timber in the prefabricated buildings market, according to a new report.

From 2004-2007, the overall market is forecast to continue to grow at a rate of around 10-11% a year, states AMA Research, authors of the UK Prefabricated Buildings Market report.

Driving the increase is the growth in a range of end use sectors, increasing levels of government expenditure and growing penetration in the housebuilding sector.

Sectors making use of prefabricated buildings include commercial and industrial, hotels, educational, healthcare, defence and others like asylum centres, immigrant detention centres and prisons.

Several niche growth sectors have also been identified, such as the security sector, modular accommodation, private houses and self-contained cabins.
