Prestoplan is to supply timber frame solutions to an environmentally-friendly development that will eventually provide 750 homes in Telford.

Scandinavian pine and PresWeb flooring are to be used in the construction of the timber frames that will form the basis of the Telford Millennium Community project in East Ketley, which will also feature work space, a primary school, small offices and retail and leisure services, alongside the properties.

Architect Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands specified that the development should achieve excellent ratings against the BREEAM and Ecohomes schemes, as well as reducing construction waste to 25m³ per dwelling.

In order to achieve these requirements, Prestoplan, which has been named as the preferred supplier of modern methods of construction for the project, said that it manufactured a prototype to allow the architects to trial and test their designs.

“By producing a factory-based prototype we were able to demonstrate how specific elements, for example innovative detailing, worked,” said Prestoplan business development director David Hart. “The design team was then able to make minor modifications that would ensure the construction techniques were both pioneering and environmentally-friendly.”

Mr Hart added that the “environmental credentials of the finished homes will be exceptional”.

The first phase of the development, featuring 43 units, is due for completion early next year.
