People are increasingly understanding the role of trees and forests in tackling climate change, according to a new Forestry Commission survey of public opinion.
The proportion of respondents agreeing that trees are good because they remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere increased 4% to 84%.
A large majority of people said a lot more trees should be planted (91%) and that more information should be provided about the ways in which wood can be used to lessen impact on the environment (86%).
The results come just a month before the publishing of an independent scientific assessment of the role of the UK’s forests in climate and their potential role in mitigating climate change and its effects.
