Wolseley plc and Finnforest have supplied 80 pubs in the Spirit Group with timber decking and pergolas to help the chain adapt to the UK-wide smoking ban.

The contract, worth £110,000, has seen 50 commercial deck and pergola kits and 30 gazebo-style structures erected at 80 Punch Taverns, with the decking featuring a non-slip grained surface to provide a safe environment for smokers during wet spells.

Spirit Group said that the timber structures had provided “an ideal outdoor space” and had helped the company fulfill the “care of duty we have for our patrons”.

“Wolseley together with Finnforest, have successfully designed, manufactured and delivered a fit for purpose solution that offers a comfortable and versatile area for our patrons and staff that wish to smoke,” said John Adam, Spirit Group’s smoking solutions project manager.

Wolseley and Finnforest said that the two designs offered Punch Taverns a “unique” and “attractive” solution to the problem of catering for smokers during the winter months.
