US lumber company Rayonier has completed the US$89m purchase of 83,000 acres of timberland in southern Alabama.
The deal will increase the company’s annual south-east harvest volume by about 10%. The timberland is near its existing 282,000 acres in Alabama, which should minimise additional management costs.
Rayonier expects to realise tax benefits of about US$11m from the purchase.
