The Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) has selected Cornwall County Council, Rugby Borough Council, Redditch Borough Council, Adas/Tal Goed Nurseries and Giffords/Persimmon Homes to conduct the trials in a variety of landscaping applications.
The trials will seek to grow awareness of the benefits of recycled woodchip as a mulch or a surfacing material for pathways and playgrounds, building confidence with potential users.
Cornwall County Council will use 43 tonnes of RWP as surfacing for two bridleway/footpath/cycle routes, while a similar surfacing project in Rugby using 105 tonnes of RWPs will compare the material with tree chippings.
About 100 tonnes will be used for a range of Persimmon show homes in the West Midlands, demonstrating the use of colour, slope stability and weed suppression of RWPs.
