Rettenmeier, one of Europe’s largest sawmillers, has established a UK subsidiary with a dedicated local head office, warehouse and logistics structure as it seeks to strengthen its market presence in the UK.

Rettenmeier Holding AG said the establishment of a local warehouse and logistics structure will provide the foundation for Rettenmeier’s expansion in the UK market. It will also enable closer collaboration with B&Q, the largest DIY retailer in the UK and part of the Kingfisher Group, with whom Rettenmeier has collaborated for a number of years.

The Group told TTJ it had been serving the UK market in recent years through direct deliveries from Germany, particularly to B&Q owner Kingfisher. With the establishment of Rettenmeier UK Ltd, the company told TTJ it was “proud to have B&Q as a strong partner, and we are expanding our collaboration with them in this context”.

The newly founded subsidiary, headquartered in Birmingham, will manage and coordinate all Rettenmeier Group activities in the UK, including sales operations and customer service.

Rettenmeier said the new warehouse facility in Warrington will significantly reduce delivery times and improve supply reliability across the country.

As part of this expansion, Rettenmeier UK Ltd will further strengthen its existing team. Additional positions will be created in sales, logistics and operations to support the continued growth of the business and ensure high service levels for customers across the UK.

In recent years, the Group has substantially expanded its production capacities, including acquiring Europe’s largest sawmill in Plößberg, Germany a year ago from the insolvent Ziegler Group. It is also developing its new site in Inčukalns, Latvia.

These investments have significantly broadened the product portfolio, especially in product categories with a strong demand in the UK.

“The UK is a key growth market for us, with consistent demand for sustainable wood solutions,” said Dr Stephan Lang, CEO of Rettenmeier Holding AG.

“By expanding our production capacities and strengthening strategic partnerships, we have created the basis for further growth. With Rettenmeier UK Ltd, we are now establishing a dedicated strong enterprise that will enable us to serve our customers in the United Kingdom even more directly and efficiently.”

The formation of Rettenmeier UK Ltd is part of the group’s long-term internationalisation strategy.

Rettenmeier Holding AG manufacturers solid wood products for construction, gardening, and industrial applications. It is headquartered in Wilburgstetten, Germany, with products including DIY items, sawn timber, planed timber, construction timber, and garden timber.

The company employs around 2,200 at eight strategic locations in Germany, Latvia and Slovakia, supplying customers in over 90 international markets.
