Deliveries of British timber (roundwood) to primary wood processors and others in 2003 increased by 4% on the previous year to a total of 7.8 million green tonnes.

The statistics have been published in the Forestry Commission‘s British Timber Statistics 2003 and can be viewed at www.forestry.gov.uk/statistics.

Other main findings include: deliveries of logs to sawmills accounted for 4.5 million green tonnes (57% of the total); a further 1.5 million green tonnes (19%) were delivered to wood-based panel mills and 0.9 million tonnes (12%) to integrated pulp and paper mills. Other uses included round fencing, fuelwood and exports of roundwood.
