Forestry Statistics 2013 also says 133 forest projects were registered under the Woodland Carbon Code as at June 30, 2013, covering 14,200ha and projects to sequester 5.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The woodland area in the UK in 2013 is 3.1 million ha, of which 1.4 million ha (44%) are independently certified as sustainably managed.
Meanwhile, the publication states that UK wood product imports were valued at £6.4bn in 2012, including 5.2 million m3 of sawn timber, 2.6 million m3 of wood-based panels and 6.1 million tonnes of paper. The full statistics can be downloaded at www.forestry.gov.uk
