Rowlinson Timber Ltd has discharged the largest ship to arrive at the company’s Grimsby terminal and distribution centre.

The mv Teknolog Konyukhov, an ice class vessel, sailed from St Petersburg with a cargo of 5,800m3 of softwood.

Rowlinson has chartered a number of ice class ships on the open market to maintain supplies for UK customers in the face of severe ice conditions at Russian and Baltic ports.

Rowlinson Timber managing director John Bate said: “By maintaining high stocks of landed timber in all specifications, we have been able to continue offering a 24/48hr nationwide delivery service.”

The company has more ships on the way from St Petersburg, Tallinn and Riga. It has negotiated additional berthing and storage areas at the Port of Hull to supplement Grimsby.
