Södra has received 100 expressions of interest from its member forest owners in becoming FSC-certified.

The news follows the Swedish forestry group’s decision to offer dual – PEFC and FSC – certification. Previously, Södra had focused solely on PEFC, but the increasing popularity of FSC-labelled products convinced it to widen the offering.

“It is pleasing that there is such a high level of interest in double certification under both FSC and PEFC,” said Urban Eriksson, head of Södra Skog.

“Double certification benefits our members as well as our mills. It makes it easier for members to sell their wood at the same time as it helps meet market demand.”

When harvesting re-starts after the summer, the first double-certified wood from Södra members will be delivered to Södra mills.
