Sarawak is exporting its expertise in sustainable tropical timber management to developing countries, the state’s chief minister has said.

Abdul Taib Mahmud said Sarawak was a model for sustainability and was sharing its knowledge with countries that rely heavily on logging-related industries.

Timber entrepreneurs are expanding their operations in Africa, Russia and Pacific countries, while the Sarawak Timber Association is handling international deals and price monitoring in timber-related sectors and has a global network for timber research and training for workers.

The minister said: “We have created a system that can produce a good management culture.”
