The Sarawak Timber Industry Corporation (STIDC) is organising a trade delegation to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Jeddah to promote its timber and timber products.
STIDC acting deputy general manager Haji Rabani Taip said: “We need to be dynamic and cannot just depend on our traditional Japanese, Chinese and European markets.”
He said a recent reconnaissance survey of the west Asian countries showed there were bright prospects for Sarawak to expand its timber markets.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said he expects Malayasian timber exports bound for the UAE to surge during the next four years to fuel a construction boom.
Timber exports to the country during 2001 were worth US$68m – 31% of Malaysia’s total timber exports to the Middle East.
