The Malaysian government has urged Sarawak to increase investment in the furniture industry in order to produce a higher return.
The state of Sarawak has Malaysia’s largest timber resource yet, according to the Ministry of International Trade, in 2010 it contributed only RM20m of Malaysia’s RM8bn furniture exports revenue.
The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation hopes that proposed plantations will provide the resources for the furniture industry to expand.
