The extended ban, which affects finger-jointed products of certain lengths and sizes, will come into effect on August 11.
The Malaysian Furniture Industry Council has applauded the move because of the sector’s difficulty in sourcing enough rubberwood for making furniture.
It also commended government plans to establish 375,000ha of rubberwood plantations during the next 15 years to overcome shortages.
