Every SCA Forest Products supply business now has Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification.

The last to achieve the status is Holmsund sawmill which produces 80,000m³ of industry-specific redwood products each year for its international markets.

Kenneth Eriksson, president of SCA Timber, said: ‘Our investment in providing verified sustainable raw materials for the forest products sector will enable customers as far apart as the UK, Greece, Italy and Scandinavia to gain further business advantage.’

Holmsund sawmill manager Lars-Olof Alm said requests for FSC materials were growing and added: ‘In particular there is a demand for FSC-labelled smaller dimensions in centre-yield products.’

Steve Mullany, purchasing manager at Shaw Timber in the UK, said: ‘More and more customers are demanding FSC-approved materials. The certification of Holmsund mill is an important addition to the small number of companies and mills that can provide quality FSC-approved materials.’

And Mike Cullis, purchasing director with Stamco of Hastings, said: ‘The public are becoming more aware of FSC and we welcome this positive step in the right direction. It’s sure to help our business in the future.’
