SCA Timber has decided not to rebuild its Graningebruk sawmill which was destroyed by fire earlier this month.
The company decided the 30,000m³ capacity mill had been too badly damaged in the blaze, which destroyed the mill building and sawmill line. An employee had discovered smoke coming from the bark room, which is where SCA believes the fire started.
Graningebruk mill, which produces spruce construction wood for the domestic and export markets, is one of four sawmills acquired from Scaninge in 2003.
Björn Lyngfelt, SCA Forest Products’ vice-president of communications, said drying kilns and a storage area were unaffected by the blaze and some operations would continue over the next few months before closing.
“The sawmill will not be rebuilt,” said Mr Lyngfelt. “It was dedicated to small sawlogs and quite an efficient operation and quite profitable.”
Graningebruk is the smallest of SCA’s sawmills.
