Crew members on one of Scotline‘s timber vessels were winched off by rescue helicopter this week when the ship began listing badly in heavy seas off Cornwall.
The Scot Ranger, carrying about 4,000m3 of Swedish softwood from Varburg to Newport, was caught in Force 9 gales near St Ives. A large wave shifted the 1,200m3 deck cargo and the ship developed a list of 30?.
Three members of crew were taken off as a precaution but officers remaining on board managed to reduce the list by adjusting the ballast and no cargo was lost.
The ship found refuge in Penzance, where repairs were made to its damaged deck timber rail. Scotline said the repairs would delay the vessel by only a few days.
