SCA Skog’s forestry operations are to remain Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified after Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) completed an audit of changes to its business practices.

In November 2007, SGS issued a number of major corrective action requests after an FSC audit of SCA’s operations, including employee well-being, the protection of trees with high nature qualities and a company-wide commitment to FSC standards.

This led SCA to put in place a number of operational changes that has seen SGS “verify the corrective actions taken”.

“It is positive that the measures we have taken have yielded results,” said Jerker Karlsson, president of SCA Skog. “We will ensure that we have a high and uniform level of quality in terms of nature conservation in our forestry operations and that we fulfil the commitments we have made.”

In a further environmental development, UK consultant Innovest Strategic Value Advisors has ranked SCA as one of the world’s top 100 companies for environmental and social issues and strategic planning.
