US-based coatings manufacturer Sherwin-Williams has renamed its chemical coatings division “Product Finishes” following the integration of acquisitions Becker Acroma and Sayerlack.

Drew McCandless, president of the Product Finishes division, said the time was right to reflect the group’s expanded footprint with a name that articulated the division’s focus on providing finishes.

Sherwin-Williams said it now boasted a very strong presence in Europe, with significant manufacturing and distribution capabilities. Added to its existing infrastructure in China and Asia, the 2010 acquisitions effectively double the group’s capabilities.

The Product Finishes division includes wood-finishing solutions for sectors including kitchen cabinet manufacture, timber building products and wood furniture. Ronseal is one of the division’s best-known wood coating brands.

Sherwin’s acquisition of Becker Acroma from Arch last year would make the group the third largest coatings company in the world, said Sherwin Williams UK Coatings Ltd’s David Wright.

“Arch was a good fit for the business but Arch was looking to be one of the world’s best biocides company.

“We were very well supported but definitely not core and for the good of the industrial wood business we needed to be part of a coatings company,” he said.
