Croydon timber merchant SL Hardwoods has added a Striebig compact vertical panel saw to its machinery stable.

The merchant sells turning and carving blanks, as well as sheet material that includes specialist veneered panels. It also has a joinery which produces windows and doors for the building trade.

The Striebig replaced a 15-year-old saw that was having accuracy problems, plus a heavy beam saw, which meant sizing was taking far longer than necessary.

The Compact 5207 is being used to cut sheet material for customers and in the joinery. It also straightens log sawn lengths of timber and cuts 650x50mm hardwood kitchen worktops to size.

“Because we can now size panels more quickly it has allowed us to increase throughput, and customers don’t have to wait around so long for their orders,” said SL Hardwoods owner John Smith.

Wood machinist Raj Patel said he liked the quick changeover from standard blade to a scribing blade when cutting veneered panels.

The Compact 5207 features a cutting size of 4600x2070mm and a cutting depth of 60mm.
