FSC-certified SmartPly OSB has been used in the construction of a new facility built in Amsterdam for Stora Enso Timber DIY Products BV, a subsidiary of the Stora Enso group.
SmartPly 2 OSB plays an “invisible” load-bearing role, according to the company.
“SmartPly has a huge spanning capacity with a three-layer structure which allows stiffness and strength to be distributed evenly,” said Carel Fabius from Smartply Europe, part of Coillte Panel Products. “However, this usage cannot be seen in the complex because, this time, our OSB plates make a constructive contribution within the various dividing walls. Straight-edged SmartPly 2 is used in the wall zones where the free-hanging toilets and hanging cupboards are located.”
Stora Enso’s new facility includes 27,000m² of production and storage space, 1,000m² of office areas and an as yet undeveloped are of 8,500m². The production hall comprises two production lines for planing and profiling, one production line with a double bandsaw, two small packaging lines and a flexible packaging unit.
It is anticipated that around 110,000m³ of products for the DIY and professional construction markets will be processed and distributed annually.
