Södra has reached an agreement with Robert Jan de Waard and Ronald Rijswijk to acquire all shares in the Dutch company Smartt Timber BV.

Södra previously held partial ownership in Smartt, which has served as a successful sales channel for Södra Wood in the Netherlands and Belgium for many years.

The Netherlands is a strategically important market for Södra, where it has maintained a leading position for a long time.

Södra says it is showing its long-term commitment to the Dutch market and elevating its business to the next level, improving the customer offer even further.

Operations will continue as usual, and the acquisition will neither affect customers and employees, nor both Robert Jan de Waard and Ronald Rijswijk. Robert Jan de Waard, previous co-owner, has worked with Södra throughout the entire partnership and will continue as the CEO of the company.

”Södra has been a fantastic partner, and it feels natural that the ownership now transitions to Södra,” said Robert Jan de Waard.

“The collaboration between Södra and Smartt has always worked very well. I am grateful for the expertise and experience we have created together over the years.”

“Through the acquisition, we have the opportunity to increase and improve our local market presence and thereby also expand our offering to different market segments and customers in the Netherlands and Belgium,” said Södra Wood’s marketing manager Andreas Jonasson.

Smartt Timber imports, stocks and distributes softwood, especially for the Dutch and Belgian markets.
