Northern Ireland panel manufacturer Spanboard Products Ltd is to restructure its operations in Coleraine, with the potential loss of 80 jobs.
Spanboard, sister company of Sonae UK Ltd, is to cease production of raw chipboard in Northern Ireland, instead concentrating on value-added services. All its chipboard will now be manufactured at Sonae’s Knowsley site. Both firms are operated by holding company Tafisa UK and are part of Sonae Industria.
“It¹s important to stress that the changes won¹t affect our existing customers in Ireland,” said Mr Graham.
“The commercial operation isn¹t changing and we will still be offering our full product range.”
The company has now entered a 90-day consultation period on its plans, with Mr Graham expecting the new-look structure to be in place by the end of the first quarter.
