Background Information on Unit
Forest Enterprise Scotland (FES) is an agency of Forestry Commission Scotland, managing the National Forest Estate on behalf of Scottish Ministers. The Estate extends to 639,000ha, some 9% of Scotland’s land area and is managed by a team of 800 staff distributed across Scotland and delivering a diverse range of business activities including sustainable land and forestry management, timber harvesting and sales, recreation and community partnerships, renewable energy and agriculture.
Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) is the Scottish Government’s adviser and regulator on forestry. Together FCS and FES serve as part of the Environment and Forestry directorate of the Scottish-Government.
Learning and Development will be a new team established within FES which will provide a learning and development service to both FCS and FES. The service is anticipated to be a blended model which will comprise of some in-house delivery of specific Forestry Commission knowledge, skills and behaviours and additional, out-sourced services for other requirements.
Learning and Development will sit within the newly created Business Services Function which provides all of the core business systems and process including HR, finance, procurement, digital and IT services and fleet and buildings management.
The service will partner the business going forward to understand the business issues and objectives in FCS and FES; identify the competencies and knowledge needed to deliver those objectives; and find the most efficient, effective and appropriate way to fill any gaps.
Purpose of the Job
The purpose of this post is to provide specialist training to forest staff, principally in the activity areas of Chainsaw work management and associated operations, Forest Maintenance, Forest & Water, supervision of contracts for those delivering to FC.
Key Work Areas
Design and deliver effective training solutions;
Carry out training needs analysis as required by customers;
Design new training courses or update existing training courses as requested by the Course Owner;
Carry out evaluation of your training;
Support the Training system by providing the required pre and post course information to administration;
Liaise with customers in your field of expertise and provide most up to date advice and support;
Advise and Support other FCS staff in delivery of training and development activities which relate to your key activity areas.
