More than 250 delegates attended the Solid Wood Solutions conference last week at Salford Quays.
Interest in overseas engineered timber construction solutions was so high at the sold-out event, sponsored by Timber Expo, that TRADA has now dedicated a complete session of its In Touch with Timber (running alongside Timber Expo) conference later this year to “Inspirations from abroad”.
“The enthusiasm for the material is infectious and the day saw everyone involved see, hear and learn why engineered wood is becoming so popular,” organisers said.
“It is now a key tool for those in the construction and property markets that are establishing a new generation of buildings that blend aesthetics and environmental concern with a flexible and reliable building material driven by offsite prefabricated technology.”
Among the materials showcased were cross-laminated timber, glulam and structural insulated panels (SIPs).
Event manager Victoria Jones said Solid Wood Solutions, the first of a series of regional events, was designed to dovetail with Timber Expo activity.
The “Inspirations from abroad” session at the TRADA-backed Timber Expo (Ricoh Arena, Coventry, September 27-28) will feature speakers from Finland, Norway, Sweden, Austria and New Zealand, covering engineered wood developments in mature markets to inspire the UK design community.?
