Standing sales prices for UK coniferous trees have declined steeply in the past year, according to the latest figures released by the Forestry Commission.

The Coniferous Standing Sales Price Index, a National Statistics publication which records Forest Enterprise‘s standing timber sales, shows a 23.9% drop in real terms for the 12 months to March 2003, compared with the previous year when prices fell by 11.5%.

The average price per m3 of standing coniferous timber was £5.74 in nominal terms.
