King Charles III and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer have visited a sustainable housing development in Cornwall where Sydenhams Timber Engineering is currently supplying timber frame homes.

The visit, which also included Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, was in Nansledan, a development led by the Duchy of Cornwall.

As well as Sydenhams, The Duchy of Cornwall is also working with Morrish Homes, LHC Design, and GRWN Group to build energy-efficient homes.

Sydenhams Timber Engineering performed energy assessments for both operational and embodied carbon as well as designing, manufacturing, and assembling the timber frame for two new properties. These homes are currently under construction using a timber frame system incorporating hemp insulation.

There are 2,860 remaining planned properties at Nansledan.

“Sustainability in housing isn’t just about materials – it’s about rethinking the way we build,” said Dean Orchard, managing director at Sydenhams Timber Engineering.

“Our revolutionary twin-wall timber frame system, combined with hemp insulation from GRWN Group, significantly improves energy efficiency while reducing embodied carbon.”
