Scottish minister Allan Wilson MSP has made a fact-finding tour of a new benchmark land regeneration project in Greater Manchester.

Mr Wilson, Scotland’s deputy minister for environment and rural development, visited the 170ha Lower Irwell Valley Improvement Area – one of seven sites being transformed into community woodlands in the £23m Newlands scheme.

Newlands, designed to improve woodland cover in the north-west, is being funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency and delivered in partnership with the Forestry Commission, the Red Rose Forest, Mersey Basin Campaign, Groundwork, Salford and Bury councils, plus major landowners.
