Three timber construction projects are to share TRADA’s 75th anniversary research competition prize after impressing judges.

The Ty Unnos system, developed by Coed Cymru; dowel laminated beams, developed by Concrete and Timber Services; and White Design’s work to establish the thermal mass properties of monolithic timber construction for use in low CO2 emission building designs, will share the £75,000 prize money.

They were chosen from 29 entries that aimed to further the use of timber and wood products in innovative ways. All three will now be taken up in a year-long collaborative effort between the winning companies and TRADA.

“The quality of the submissions demonstrates once again the passion for innovation that exists within the industry, and TRADA is proud to be involved in turning some of these ideas into useful products for the future,” said Dr Hugh Mansfield-Williams, technical manager within TRADA’s engineering and product services division.
