PJ Timber aims to export logs every six weeks, with the second shipment currently being prepared.

The first shipment in early June saw 1,900 tonnes of logs depart for Ghent in Belgium, with Associated British Ports (ABP) claiming that the new service highlights the versatility of the Port of Southampton and that it “hopes to handle many more shipments of logs in the future”.

Logs used to be a major trade at Southampton but ABP said cars, cruises and containers had become more prominent at the port in recent years.
