It was the second Timber Expo after an encouraging inaugural event last year at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena, with organiser Radar Communications, backed by TRADA, holding a bigger event this time around with around 150 exhibitors.

Event director Loretta Sales said many exhibitors had cited the good quality of visitors during the event.

"People have also said that the size of stands and structures are a vast improvement on last year," she said.

She said the Timber Buyers’ Forum, sponsored by Timbmet and which saw contractors and specifiers meet up with suppliers, was a major success.

Exhibitor rebooking rates for next year’s show on September 24-25 are also reportedly very high.

International exhibitors included a strong contingent from Austria, as well as companies from Canada, Brazil, Spain, Ireland and Germany and many UK importers, merchants and distributors.

W Howard Group and SAM Mouldings displayed exterior Medite Tricoya modified MDF mouldings, the first time both companies have ventured into exterior products. Frame Wise built the largest stand at the Ricoh – a timber frame house utilising timber panels, I-joists, glulam and roof trusses – while Woodtrend was testing the waters with its 450mm-wide engineered wood flooring.

Awards were presented for product innovations and stand displays, with the Supreme Award for Innovation being won by Accsys Technologies.

Best custom built stand was Lonza Wood Protection and Knauf Drywall won best shell stand.
