InTEC (Innovative Timber Engineering in the Countryside) – the independent network promoting timber as a mainstream construction material in the UK countryside – has identified where more information is needed if timber is to fulfil its full potential.

Knowledge gaps include areas such as UK-grown stress laminated timber, bridges, signs and barriers, timber beams and piles, walls, decking and innovative new structures.

Vahik Enjily, BRE Centre for Timber Technology & Construction

Vahik Enjily of the BRE Centre for Timber Technology & Construction – a member of InTEC – said: “New markets are needed for the increased supply of timber coming on stream in the UK over the next few years. The challenge for specifiers and users of timber is to find ways to maximise its special qualities and overcome any difficulties that they may face.”

InTEC, which plans to encourage an international exchange of information, wants to hear from those with knowledge about timber engineering in the countryside.
