The development of timber sales during June has been disappointing, according to the Finnish Forest Industries Federation (FFIF).
The Finnish forest industry purchased 2.2 million m³ from private holdings during the month – up one tenth compared to May, but down by nearly two thirds from record levels in June 2007.
Aggregate procurement volumes for January-June were 10.4 million m³, less than half of the amount achieved in the corresponding period of 2007.
Stumpage prices for pine logs rose by 2% to an average of €59/m³. Spruce log prices rose by 1,% with the average price now €60.
Compared with 2006, the last “normal” year for timber sales, prices increased considerably. Softwood logs jumped 23-27%, while birch logs rose by 17%.
