The Timber Packaging and Pallet Confederation (TIMCON) sounded the warning because of a temporary supply shortage of pallets, caused by heavy demand across Europe combined with reduced supply due to adverse weather conditions in Scandinavia, the main source of UK softwood.

TIMCON said the situation meant less reputable pallet companies may be tempted to under specify the amount of wood required to keep prices down, thereby producing pallets which fail to meet high industry standards.

To help buyers source pallets which meet standards, the organistion has highlighted several key issues, including the use of pallet design software. For more information contact TIMCON on 0116 264 0579.
