The annual Timber Trades Benevolent Society’s (TTBS) National Golf was held at Slayley Hall, Northumberland, and this year was sponsored by Lonza Wood Protection. The July 7 event near Hexham, attracted 62 players on the excellent Priestman Course for the morning greensomes and the prestigious Hunting Course for the afternoon individual Stableford competition. The weather was kind with just one rain shower in the afternoon.
Despite the recent wet weather in Northumberland, both courses were in excellent condition and provided a challenge for the golfers in both morning and afternoon competitions.
The hotel facilities were excellent and the presentation dinner in the Hunting Suite provided an excellent menu to complete the event, attended by Robert Bruce, sales and marketing director of MH Southern & Co Ltd, the TTBS immediate past national president.
A raffle for a selection of donated prizes raised £1,020 for TTBS central funds. Trophies were presented by David Law, marketing manager of Lonza Wood Protection, and Ivan Savage, TTBS national president & general manager.
Mr Savage thanked Lonza Wood Protection for its generous sponsorship, together with the sub-sponsors and hole sponsors Associated British Ports, Arnold Laver Timber World, Balcas, Blamphayne Sawmills, BSW Timber Group, Carver Group, Ellpro Timber Ltd, Hoppings, North Yorkshire Timber, Robertson Timber, Södra UK, Taylor Maxwell Timber, Vincent Timber, Bond Timber,
Haldane Fisher, Severn Valley Woodworks, UPM–Kymmene (UK) Ltd, Creffields Flameproof Boards, Hales Sawmills Ltd, GE Robinson Ltd, James Jones & Sons Ltd and MH Southern & Co Ltd.
He also thanked Mr Law for his support with the marketing and his help on the day. James Southern, managing director of MH Southern & Co Ltd, responded with a vote of thanks to Mr Savage for once again organising a successful and enjoyable event, and commented that it was very good to see the National Golf back in the north-east
