The operation will expand the product range and availablity, and allow for a full tool and equipment hire service at all 150 branches in the region. Travis Perkins said.
"We’re incredibly excited about what this means for our customers. As their local timber and builders merchant we can provide them with the largest possible range of quality materials, available at a time to suit them," said chief operating officer Andrew Harrison.
The site will employ 105 people and also support staff training and development from a purpose built Branch Service Centre.
The RDC was planned at a cost of £35m and to be fully operational next year. It is on a huge development near the M62, which also has hubs for Brakes and Hermes.
Travis Perkins bought the freehold to its site, which covers 11 acres and required 430,4000ft2 of new concreting. The main warehouse is almost 100,000ft2 with an additional 11,260ft2 for office and employee areas.
There are 2,938 racking locations to stock more than 3,000 product lines, and the site will be served by 20 vehicles. Supply chain efficiencies are expected to reduce the company’s operating cost and inventory and reduce carbon emissions by cutting delivery mileage.
