Bob Johnston, past president and five-year board member of the Tropical Forest Foundation (TFF), has been appointed as the organisation’s executive director. He succeeds Keister Evans who has retired.

In the past Mr Johnston has facilitated three of the foundation’s long-term planning sessions and assisted with communications and fund-raising projects. He has also led the legislative committees for the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association and what is now the International Wood Products Association. As executive director, he plans to focus on expanding partnerships and increasing awareness of the critical work that the organisation is doing around the world.

“The Tropical Forest Foundation brings the knowledge and resources of industry, conservation advocates, and science together to teach sustainable forestry practices in tropical regions. With the recent US Lacey Act revisions and the European Parliament’s ban on illegal wood imports, the work TFF is doing is more important than ever,” said Mr Johnston. “More partnerships with industry, governments, international agencies, and certifiers are critical.”

Previous to joining TFF full-time, Johnston consulted with non-profit and for-profit corporations on developing and implementing growth strategies. He recently developed a tool to drive sustainability in the supply chain that follows a model used in economic and carbon credit development.
