Current feedback from Timber Trade Federation (TTF) members suggests the trade is doing “OK” and companies will weather economic challenges, TTF chief exective John White told the organisation’s annual general meeting.

“I think the industry has coped with the recession and the legacy of the recession well,” Mr White told about 30 members at the Building Centre meeting.

“That’s a testimony to the industry. I don’t think we have seen some of the casualties we expected to see when we found ourselves in the depths of the crisis in 2009.

“Where we stand now from speaking to members is that things are OK.”

Mr White said feedback about levels of activity and cost base indicated that the trade was in good stead for the future, though he offered “no crystal ball” about the future performance.

“I think we will continue to weather the storm well. Timber and wood products are so fantastic, they have a culture and history which no other product can touch.”
