UCM Timber plc has opened an office in Shanghai to capitalise on the growing Chinese market.

The company said the office, manned by Igor Gruneberg, will work closely with UCM Timber Group subsidiary Mercantile International (Pte) Ltd in Singapore.

UCM chairman and managing director Mark Plews said: “We believe the potential opportunity is significant and it is essential to have someone on the ground permanently in China who is able to develop the customer base and ensure the quality control and supply chain management for any products we source in China.”

UCM intends to export goods to China and supply into the country, with products to include logs, veneer and sawn goods.
