The UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) is developing its quality assurance scheme to enable 14 different supplier categories to the timber frame industry to become Q-Mark accredited.

UKTFA launched its two-tier scheme, Q-Mark and Q-Mark Plus, two years ago. It is based on the system requirements for ISO 9002:2000, elements of the technical control requirements of BS 5268 and Building Regulations.

All of UKTFA’s manufacturer members have achieved or are working towards the standard Q-Mark, which is a condition of UKTFA membership and must be attained within the first 12 months of joining.

UKTFA chief executive Bryan Woodley said: “From the outset, one of the UKTFA’s functions has been to raise and maintain the standards of products and services provided by its members.

“As the UKTFA represents 80% of the UK timber frame industry, it is vital that the association sets the standard in quality.”

UKTFA members that fail to achieve or maintain the standard face explusion and Mr Woodley said this tough stance ensures the progression and strength of the industry.
