Accusations of corruption have been levelled at the South Australian government-owned corporation, ForestrySA, by the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union.

The union is calling for an immediate independent inquiry, claiming that no regard has been paid to the safety of workers.

Union forestry division state secretary Dave Kirner said: “We’re getting some allegations being made about cover-ups in relation to industrial accidents, and we’re getting some quite strange information about what’s going on in the forests and people taking timber and not paying for it.”

He said allegations had also been made in relation to land transactions.

The corporation, which manages more than 82,000ha of plantations, has rejected the accusations.
