Production efficiency and product quality at UPM‘s Savonlinna and Jyväskylä plywood mills in Finland are to be boosted with a €8m investment.

The Savonlinna mill in eastern Finland, which has a coating unit as well as a sanding and sorting line, will see a €5.4m investment which will improve production efficiency and almost double further processing capacity. Plywood panels produced at the mill are used mainly in the transport industry and formwork systems. The new line is scheduled for start up in early 2007.

At the Jyväskylä plywood mill, €2.5m will be invested in the enlargement of the packaging and further processing department.

The investment in a new building affects the production efficiency but not the capacity. The plywood panels and veneer produced at the mill are used for formwork systems and by the parquet industry. The project will start in May and is due for completion at the end of this year.
