UPM Timber is splitting its sawn timber and further processed products into separate divisions to improve service to timber and building industry customers.

The move is also aimed at improving new product development capabilities for sustainable building.

“By renewing our operating models we are able to improve our profitability and sales of our sawn and further processed products,” said Tuomo Visanko, senior vice-president of UPM’s forest and timber business.

Ilkka Ylipoti has been appointed to head the sawn timber business.

“As Finland’s largest redwood producer, UPM Timber has a strong position in various sawn timber markets,” he said.

“We intend to strengthen our market positions by continuing to develop new products and services for different end-use industries.”

Arto Halonen will lead the new further processing business.

“Developing new products and services for wood building solutions as an independent business is a great opportunity,” said Mr Halonen.

“Our wood products face a promising future in construction and interior design.”
