Pine saw log prices in the US south are to climb this year, according to a new forecast from Forisk Consulting.

The stumpage price forecast shows varying rates of increase over the south, with Georgia saw log prices predicted to rebound by 17% this year, while prices in North Carolina set to go up less than 1%.

“Pine sawtimber demand declined 32.6% across the south between 2006 and 2009,” said Dr Tim Sydor, Forisk forest economist.

“Yet these declines varied by state. In the next few years, as lumber demand recovers, our historic wood demand and price analysis suggests a strong stumpage price recovery in several southern states, while others will take longer to respond.”
