In a bid to increase wood supplies to local manufacturers, the Vietnam Association of Wood and Forest Products plans to set up wood importing companies in the north, centre and south of the country.

The company will be a joint stock enterprise funded by capital from the processors and exporters in each region.

A shortage of local wood supplies is forcing companies to import wood from Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia and African countries to meet customer demand.

This year the processors and exporters expect to process around two million m3 of raw wood, but only 50,000m3 a year is available from domestic sources.
